City Minsk: free walking route “A Quest Through Central Minsk: In Search of the Tsmok” along the sights. 10 points. Approximately 45 min. Quests and legends
They say that in the river that embraces old Minsk there has lived, since time immemorial, a Tsmok, a river dragon and guardian spirit of these banks. Long ago his daughter, the river herself, fell in love with a man named Menesk, and from their love the city grew. The dragon has slept on the riverbed for many centuries, but the memory of him is dissolved in the water, in the trees, in the stone of the embankments.
Today the guardian has grown weak: people are forgetting the legend, and with it his power is fading. It is up to you to follow the route above the river and gather the scattered shards of memory: Forest, Sun, Stars, Voice, Sorrow and Word. At each stop you will not find a textbook question, but something you can see right here and now: look up, look closely, count. Gather them all, and at the final stop by the water the dragon will awaken.
You are not a spectator. You are the one who wakes the guardian.

Gorky Park began in the early XIX century as the Governor's Garden — the oldest park in the city. Generations of Minsk residents have walked these paths, and the old trees here really do remember more than any archive.
From the park paths, the route leads out to the water and a footbridge. Here, between the banks, the city takes on a different scale: instead of individual trees, the river opens up before you.
On the other bank lies a park named after Yanka Kupala. Among its paths stands a full-length figure of the Belarusian poet.
The Grand Opera and Ballet Theatre is the largest theatre in Belarus, a monumental Constructivist building by the architect Iosif Langbard, resembling a Roman amphitheatre. A bomb hit it during the war, and the occupiers set up a stable inside; after the liberation the theatre was rebuilt from scratch.
A monument to Maxim Bogdanovich stands at the western edge of the theatre square. The bronze figure wears a long garment, with his arms crossed in front of him.
The Island of Courage and Sorrow, on the bend of the river by Trinity Suburb, is popularly called the Island of Tears.

At the entrance to Trinity Suburb stands a bronze sculpture featuring an artist and an unusual tree. In its crown, instead of ordinary foliage, a small fantastic world of buildings and figures has gathered.
